Non-Violent Resistance

The team will introduce elements of NVR into their work where needed to support parents in dealing with violent or aggressive behaviour from a child. This might also involve completing a six-step programme for an hour a week over six-eight weeks.

The aim of the NVR programme is to develop a more authoritative style of parenting and enhance the relationship with your child and improve the home environment for all. NVR focuses on communication and de-escalation when situations get out of hand. It provides a new way to parent and helps the child take responsibility for their behaviour. NVR is not about ‘blame’ but strives to achieve mutually respectful and communicative relationships between parent and child.

NVR is delivered on a group or individual family basis by the Dóchas Case Workers and Director who have received specialist training in this area.
